London is such a vast city that it’s near impossible to see everything in just a few days, especially if you are hoping to do it all on foot.

One of the most serene and affordable ways of getting around the city, river buses (or Thames Clippers as they are also known) are an excellent way of seeing many of the best London attractions without sitting in city traffic or getting weary legs, so let’s take a look at some of the best landmarks and attractions that you can reach via a river bus.

Big Ben

One of the most iconic landmarks in London, Big Ben takes pride of place next to the Houses of Parliament and can be heard ringing out across the city. The name Big Ban is actually given to the gigantic bell itself and not the ornate clock tower that houses it, so it’s worth hopping off the river bus at the pier to take a closer look at this imposing timepiece. If you alight here, you could take a tour around the Houses of Parliament too during your stay at our M by Montcalm hotels.

Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

For something the whole family will enjoy, hop on the river bus and sail down the river to Battersea where you’ll find the famous children’s zoo which has been delighting visitors of all ages for decades.

With an array of animal friends to meet and greet during your visit, make sure that you wear something comfortable during your time at the zoo as you’ll be exploring the exhibitions and attractions on foot before returning to our spa hotel Shoreditch via the river bus.

The O2

The O2 arena has a packed calendar of gigs and concerts with something happening almost every weekend, but it also has some pretty awesome thrill-seeker activities too! With its very own pier to accommodate visitors using the river bus, those with a head for heights can scale to the top of the dome with a little help from a qualified climbing instructor or try out the new Oxygen trampoline park which has recently opened.

If all that bouncing has given you achy muscles, then head back to our spa hotel Shoreditch for a soothing massage before going back out on the river to visit some more of the best attractions London has to offer.

The London Eye

If you’ve enjoyed the view from the river by taking the river bus, you’ll love the impressive views of the city skyline on offer at the London Eye. A popular photo opportunity for many visitors, don’t be surprised if you find happy couples dressed in bridal attire getting some snaps of their happy day after their nuptials at our wedding venues in Shoreditch as you reach the pinnacle of the trip while safely enclosed in a glass pod.

St. Pauls’ Cathedral

Perhaps a little grander than some wedding venues in Shoreditch, St. Pauls’ Cathedral offers guided and multimedia tours of its impressive interior and gives visitors an insight into London’s past.

Visit the tombs of British heroes including Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington before heading to the Whisper Gallery where you can check out the wonderful acoustics which mean that even a quiet conversation can be heard over 100-metres away. When you’re finished, climb back aboard the river bus to see more of the fantastic attractions London has to offer.

 The Golden Hinde

From one water vessel to another, visitors staying at our M by Montcalm hotels can step back in time and discover what life at sea was really like for the crew on the Golden Hinde. A full-sized replica of the original vessel that Sir Francis Drake used to complete the second-ever circumnavigation of the world between 1577-1580, actors and staff are on hand to bring the experience to life with an array of amazing seafaring costumes from the era.

Tate Modern

Art lovers staying at our spa hotel Shoreditch won’t want to miss the opportunity to see some of the world’s best contemporary artwork during their visit to the city, and luckily for you, the London river bus has a stop right outside!

From paintings and sculptures to immersive art exhibitions which allow you to get hands-on during your time at the gallery, you don’t need to be an art buff to enjoy a visit to the Tate Modern.

With a regular route serving the Bankside pier where the Tate Modern is located, it’s easy to reach one of London’s most famous art galleries without the long walk or waiting around for the city traffic to clear.

Sea Life London

Located just off the London Eye pier, families staying at our M by Montcalm hotels can get up close to the beautiful residents of the deep without getting wet. With sharks, tropical fish and some local species to enjoy, this is a great day out for children and adults regardless of the weather which is made better still by getting to the venue on the river bus.

Remember, this attraction can get rather busy during the school holidays, so it’s a good idea to book your tickets in advance as this allows you to jump the queue and make the most of your time in London without having to wait in line.

London Bridge

If a little history is in order during your stay at our spa hotel Shoreditch, then London Bridge City Pier is the stop you’ll need when taking the river bus. Get a glimpse of the crown jewels at the Tower of London. Marvel at the engineering skills used to create the London bridge and discover more about the gruesome history of the city on a visit to one of London’s oldest districts.

There are also plenty of regular events such as book and farmers’ markets to enjoy during your visit to this neighbourhood, so make sure that you plan your stop in advance as there is plenty to see and do.
