Back to Black: The Best Music Shops in Shoreditch to Check Out this Month

Music Shops

As the world becomes more mobile and online-focused, it can be great to get away from it all and indulge in some good old record buying. It’s always a pleasure to take your time and sift through boxes of vinyl, looking for that illusive album and, after so long, finding it in near-perfect condition.

With Shoreditch always at the forefront of everything cool and hip, it should come as no surprise that the area is host to a number of great music shops. Get your wish list ready as we dive into some of the best.

All Ages Records

Running since 2003, All Ages Records is exactly what you want to see when you enter a music shop – rows of records, walls plastered with posters and t-shirts and every available space packed with music.

Whilst it’s not the biggest store in the world, All Ages Records offers a huge range of vinyl – new and old – with a focus on punk and hardcore music. But don’t go expecting a spiky place riddled with disaffected punks, the owner is very welcoming and more than helpful. And, even better, it’s only a short walk from your room at M by Montcalm Shoreditch London.

It’s a great place to pick up some classic albums or find something new, and the shop also stocks a healthy roster of books and CDs.

An established, well-known name, Flashback actually has three stores in London with one right on Bethnal Green Road. This puts you almost on top of the store from your M by Montcalm Shoreditch London accommodation.

Flashback stocks both old and new vinyl releases, so you can pick up something new in glorious record form or sift through the massive selection of older albums. Flashback has been in business since way back in 2000, and this experience and contacts show through in the super-rare albums on offer. But this doesn’t mean the store is just for ultra-committed vinyl fiends, as the atmosphere is very welcoming.

Flashback is the ideal place to spend an hour or two simply leafing through the stock on offer, and you will definitely end up leaving with a purchase – there’s simply too much on offer not to.

Cosmos Records London

A smaller space than the above locations, Cosmos Records London makes up for this by offering a stripped-down, DIY aesthetic and no shortage of great vinyl – and that’s what it’s all about in the end. It’s only a ten-minute walk door-to-door from the M by Montcalm Shoreditch London, so you’ll be well placed to check it out.

There really is a huge, extremely eclectic collection of vinyl on offer, covering some genres you maybe weren’t even aware existed. At the same time you can find vintage albums from well-known artists and rare pieces that might set you back a few pounds – well, more than a few.

It’s a great space and usually full of friendly vinyl seekers who are happy to talk about music, and well worth checking out.
