East London is hardly short of great things to see and do at the weekend, but we’ve compiled this brief list to give you a taster of some of the most impressive sights and attractions for your next trip…

Victoria Park

Nestled in South Hackney, Victoria Park is one of the most popular open spaces with locals. It’s home to plenty of summer festivals and autumnal events, and during the winter still provides a great space for a chilly stroll or a look at the two lakes and boating pond. You can even stop at the café within for a quick refuel.

AcelorMittal Orbit

Located within the Olympic Park, this is one of the best ways to see the area whilst also doubling as an ultra-high tunnel slide. It has been one of the major talking points of the park since its launch, and aside from the impressive architecture, visitors find the ride itself pretty thrilling, with clear plastic viewing decks along the way. Great for a weekend trip while staying at our Montcalm suites in Shoreditch.

Museum of London Docklands

London’s history as a port city stretches back over centuries, and this museum showcases the area surrounding Canary Wharf in all its glory. From early settlers to the Roman invasion and later business-related development, you’ll see historical documents, photos and archive materials which date all the way to the Second World War. If you were unaware of its history, the area played a pivotal role in clandestine wartime missions.

Geffyre Museum

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about English décor through the centuries, then this is one of the most unique must-see venues for your weekend trip. The museum displays a history of the home from 1600 right up to the modern day, and provides a relaxed way to spend some time in the city.

Columbia Road Flower Market

Not only is this delightful market one of the city’s most famous sights, it is also perfect for weekend visitors to browse or buy stunning floral arrangements for themselves or loved ones. This really is one of the best places to see and buy flowers in London, so expect plenty of eager crowds of both locals and newbies staying at M by Montcalm hotel in east London. You’ll find a little of everything here beyond simple floral arrangements, so go early if you want to avoid the masses, or late in the day for bargain-hunting.

Spitalfields City Farm

If you want to get away from it all while staying in the city, then this is the place for you. With a chance to meet a local donkey, a pair of friendly hogs and grab some home grown produce in the farm shop, a trip to the farm is a must-see for our nature-loving guests at hotels in east London.

Draughts

Ever been to a board game café? Few of us have, but Draughts offers everything a board-game geek could want and more. From classics like Monopoly to over 500 additional games covering everything from mainstream to more obscure gaming experiences, this is a relaxed way to unwind in the city in unique surroundings. It also provides an activity which is 100% weather-proof, all-year-round.
