From London city airport to Shoreditch High Street

Every year, millions of people come to London for business and leisure and it’s little wonder, as there is so much to entertain in the city.

One of the best things about the Big Smoke is that if you are here for business reasons then it’s easy for you to turn the trip into a holiday, even if you just go out for a quick drink after your meetings and events.

If you’ve arrived into London by air, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s easy to get into the city from any of the main airports, as there are public transport links located near to each of them. This is particularly handy if you’re going to be stepping off the plane and straight into an urgent meeting, as the Tube is one of the fastest ways of getting around the city.

However, if you have a bit more time, you can take a coach, train or even a taxi into the city and enjoy the sights of the London as you travel towards it.

If you are in fact in town for business but are looking for things to do and see outside your official working hours, we recommend you base your time in Shoreditch – it’s the perfect mix of business and leisure.

Somewhere to stay

Obviously, before you come to London, you need to know that you have great accommodation sorted. This can be even more important when it comes to business trips, as a long day of meetings and negotiating getting around a large new city can be stressful and you want to know that you’ll have somewhere comfortable to put your feet up at the end of the day.

M by Montcalm Shoreditch London Tech City Hotel is the perfect hotel for you to choose, as it’s easy to reach from all airports, is close to Tube and mainline railway stations and its rooms have large desks for you to work at. Not only this, but the rooms also have adequate plug sockets and charging docks for all of your work gadgets.

As the hotel is based in the centre of Tech City, it has been built in mind of the modern business traveller, who is usually tech-savvy and always well connected.

If you need to have meetings or are looking to hold an event while you are in London, the hotel has plenty of room for conferences from anything from two people, right up to 200. Our helpful staff will be happy to talk you through the options and anything else you might need.

Somewhere to eat before a meeting

If you feel like eating somewhere quirky before a big meeting and need a good sugar buzz in the morning, we recommend Cereal Killer Cafe on Brick Lane. This unusual establishment serves hundreds of different cereals from all over the world and will make for an excellent talking point during your trip.

Old Street

Heading away from Shoreditch for a meeting? Your best bet to get where you need to go quickly is to head to Old Street Tube Station, which is largely served by the Northern line.

You’ll find that this line takes you straight into the centre of London and has plenty of crossovers with other Tube lines, including the Victoria line, so you’ll be able to get to your appointments on time.

Interestingly, Old Street Tube Station is built into a roundabout, making it one of the most standout Underground stations in terms of appearance. There are also a range of shops, a market and bars and restaurants in this station if you are looking for something quick to eat or drink.

Classy dinner

It’s easy to find somewhere affordable to eat in Shoreditch – however, if you feel like eating somewhere particularly upmarket or are looking to impress a high-flying client, there are lots of top-notch restaurants for you to choose from in this area too.

Make sure you book ahead if you’re going to go to Dishoom, as there can be up to a 90-minute wait for this restaurant’s Anglo-Indian cuisine. Fragrant and flavourful food that is served with a flourish, added to expertly trained staff make this place a must-visit for anyone to the area.

For something in a cosy, yet refined atmosphere, try The Princess of Shoreditch gastro pub, which is tucked around the corner from Old Street Station.

As an award-winning restaurant establishment, it boasts a lively bar downstairs and a warm and friendly dining space upstairs. Again, reservations are encouraged, as seats fill up quickly in this pub, thanks to its excellent reputation and even better modern British cuisine, which includes smoked wild boar and beetroot, vodka and sour cream soup.
