Undoubtedly, the hot ticket currently in the West End is for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revival of hit-musical Cats. And with the run ending on February 28th, seats are sure to be in huge demand.
This multi-award winning global phenomenon first hit the stage in 1981, before becoming one of the longest running shows to have featured in both the West End and on Broadway. In 2001, it eventually retired much to the shock of theatre lovers all over the world, but after a 14-year break, it has finally returned, and it is set to be bigger and better than ever before.
Cats, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and written by Lloyd Webber, tells the tale of a cat tribe known as the Jellicles who meet annually at the Jellicle Ball. Their wise leader, Old Deuteronomy, has to make the huge decision on which of the cats should be sent up the Heaviside Layer to be reborn, and this creates divisions and factions within this group of friends.
During the 12-week run, audiences can expect all the classic songs, such as Memory, Macavity, Mr Mistoffelees and Skimbleshanks, while there have been updated set pieces too. And to top it all off, the role of Grizabella will be played by pop superstar and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, who will be making her West End debut. Directed by Gillian Lynne, this colourful and exciting show is sure to be fun for the entire family. Tickets are available from £17.50.
