Mother’s Day in the City of London

According to research, the average mum loses 44 days sleep in the first year of her child’s life, so we reckon they deserve spoiling this Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day should be about celebrating that special person in your life who has provided unconditional love even through your tricky teenage years. Whether it’s your mum, step-mum, mother-in-law or grandmother who makes you feel cherished; make this Mothering Sunday special with these unique Mother’s Day ideas.

Here at M by Montcalm, we think lasting memories are more appreciated by mums than gifts – although tokens of appreciation are always well received. Where better to create wonderful memories with your mum than the city of London? Here are our top three suggestions for Mother’s Day activities in the city:

An afternoon at the pictures

Make a movie date with your mum and treat her to a good film with popcorn and a selection of classic pick ‘n’ mix. The incredibly mum-friendly ‘Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ is a new release she’ll enjoy. Featuring silver screen icons Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Richard Gere and many more, your mum is sure to enjoy this heart-warming sequel set in the vibrant country of India. Alternatively if you have younger siblings and are looking for a family-friendly film, Shaun the Sheep follows the journey of Shaun and his flock rescuing the farmer. Your mum and the entire family will be sure to love this family classic.

Flower power

If your mum is a green-fingered goddess, she’ll love Florimania at Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace. Bursting with colours and inspired by the splendour surrounding Henry VIII’s crown, the annual flower festival has been deliberately hosted over Mother’s Day weekend this year. Floral displays are themed around flower arranging trends from the past five centuries and in addition to floral classics such as lilies, roses and tulips, you’ll also see exotic plants from around the world. Whilst at Hampton Court Palace, why not soak up some history and take advantage of the guided tours? Your mum can enjoy learning about Henry VIII’s reign and life at the palace as well as seeing the tour guides dressed in period clothing.

Shop ’til you drop

Now we know we said that creating lasting memories is more significant than material gifts, but a great way to spend time with the special mums in our lives is to shop! Give your mum a mini wardrobe makeover, or help her pick a classic outfit to make her feel special.

Alternatively, if your mum enjoys a spot of vintage fashion and home ware, why not let her pick her own gift at a retro car boot sale? Taking place at the Southbank Centre, the event is easily accessible from anywhere in London via the tube.

Make this year a Mother’s Day to remember. If our top picks don’t tickle your fancy, there are many more events taking place in London over the weekend. Just remember to make her feel special; she’s worth it!
