Shoreditch is one of the most interesting parts of London, as each month, week and day offers something completely from the one before. Whether this is food, art, music, dance, theatre or simply a delicious type of beer, you’re always going to discover something new in this fascinating borough.
Although you can spend days wandering around Shoreditch, aimlessly discovering all that it has to offer you can also head along to enjoy one of the many organised events in this east part of the city.
Among the events that are happening in Shoreditch this year, Urban Makers Pop-up is one of the most fun. What’s even better is that it’s very handy to the M by Montcalm Shoreditch London Tech City Hotel, as it’s only 20 minutes away on the bus.
The Urban Makers market is a pop-up that follows on from a Christmas market in the same area from last year. You’ll find it in the courtyard of Fount London in Hackney, which is just across the road from Netil Market and around the corner from London Fields.
It’s a creative hub that hosts a huge range of established and brand new designers who love to make things and will be selling their wares for you to enjoy.
At any one time, there will be at least 30 different designers on show in this shop and there is sure to be something that interests people of all ages.
What to see and do
You’ll find everything from jewellery, ceramics, homewares, textiles and clothing to original art and stationery for children and adults.
As the people who have made these things will be at the pop-up, you’ll be able to hear the stories behind the products and even ask them how they create their works of art. In fact, part of the area will be open as a workspace, so you can see things being made in front of your eyes.
This is the perfect spot for you to find a trinket for yourself or even seek out a gift for a special someone or occasion. There are lots of holidays coming up and of course it’s always someone’s birthday, so why not pick them up something special from this homegrown space in London?
It isn’t just a market space though, as there will also be special events and workshops for people to take part in, so you can even make something of your very own!
The pop-up will be running from February all the way through until May this year and will be on during weekdays and weekends.
For the special events, you’ll need to keep an eye on the Urban Makers East website information as the calendar of events is regularly updated.
How to reach it
As we mentioned, you can get to the pop-up by bus from the hotel, take the number 76 bus from Moorfields Eye Hospital (Stop A) towards Tottenham Hale Bus Station and ride it for 29 minutes to Amhurst Road (Stop P).
You can walk, although it will take you about 37 minutes, but if it’s a nice day, this is a lovely way to explore around the area before you go to the pop-up.
