The hotel industry is becoming increasingly busy in this modern digital age, thanks to a the constant rise of people who are travelling for business. Nowadays it’s relatively cheap to book travel and accommodation, which is why modern corporate travellers and in particular millennials are to be found staying hotels midweek for meetings and conferences.

Our hotel is based in Silicon Roundabout, the area of east London that is home to the most digital startups in the entire city. Not only this, but lots of global tech and digital companies are based here, such as Google and Facebook, meaning that there are lots of people from far afield in the area.

This could include anything from iPad ports to presentation boards, but although we can posture about what we think it is business travellers want, what is it that they actually do need when they come to stay with us?

Our in-room tech

As we mentioned, most of the people who stay at the hotel are travelling for business and it’s important for them to have an office facility from where they can work. Besides that, just about everything in your room will be accessible via an iPad, both for you ease and comfort during your stay with us.

For this reason, there are excellent Wi-Fi connections all throughout the hotel from the lobby to the restaurant and the bar to every room.

There are also lots of charging stations, as we know that when you’re travelling you’ll probably have a laptop, or a tablet and your phone – if not all three and more! This means that you need as many plug sockets as you can get, which is why we have lots of those and dedicated charging stations too.

Just about everything in your room will be remote controlled too via iPads, not only for sake of ease but also because we are keen for everything to be as digitally connected as possible.

Amenities

We know that If you’re only going to be away for a couple of days then you perhaps won’t be able to bring everything you need with you. Naturally, we have put a lot of thought into the kind of amenities that you’ll benefit from during your stay.

Although it’s not an amenity there are decent sized desks in each room, to make sure that you spread out to get all your work done in comfort. If you have a presentation or big meeting to prepare for then you’re going to need to keep a clear head and having space for everything can really help you.

Business travellers in their reviews have commented that they appreciate there being an iron and ironing board in the room because it ensures that their outfit is well kept for important meetings. Similarly, we have a laundry service in the hotel, which can be called on from your room or reception and can be a real life saver if you’ve accidentally spilled something on your only outfit! Packing can be limited and you can’t bring your whole wardrobe with you after all.

The air con is also greatly appreciated, as London can get very warm during the summer so your room can make for a nice cool escape after a long day.

The view

It seems that the higher floors are preferred for our corporate travellers, which might sound unusual seeing as they aren’t with us for leisure purposes. However, the hotel’s top floors provide a stunning view across the city and if it is a clear day you can enjoy a beautiful sunset – there are few things more relaxing after a stressful meeting.

Depending on which side of the hotel you’re staying on, you’ll be able to see the Gherkin and The Shard, among many other sites that make London’s skyline famous.

You have to book it to appreciate it for yourself but trust us when we say, you won’t be disappointed.

The staff

We understand that getting regular mealtimes when you’re on a business trip can be difficult, which is why our staff will be happy to accommodate you whenever we can.

Previous visitors have commented that the staff at breakfast are particularly helpful, as many people have to dash off quickly without having time to sit and enjoy a proper meal. In this instance, our staff will be glad to get you something to take away from the kitchen, or you can ask the reception if you can have an early breakfast sent to your room.

Our chefs work hard to ensure that we have a menu that changes often to reflect the seasons and is full of fresh ingredients. We’re also pleased to cater for people’s dietary intolerances and allergies – whether you tell us before your visit or when you’re at the restaurant we’ll be able to get you something you love.

Our location

Business travellers are constantly remarking on the excellent location of M by Montcalm Shoreditch London Tech City hotel. Many of our corporate visitors tend to have meetings in and around the area of east London, as such it’s a perfect choice for them to stay in.

Not only this, but it’s less than a ten-minute walk to Old Street Tube Station and it’s a similar distance from Liverpool Street Station. This means that you can get to the underground quickly and easily from the hotel and the second of these stations has links to national railways, meaning you should be able to get to the hotel quickly, no matter where you’re travelling from.

If you have driven, the hotel is also very handy because there are three car parks that are less than a mile away from our entrance. One of these is the local Q Park, which offers secure covered parking overnight, as well as during the day. You’ll need to check the opening and closing times of the car parks though, as some are only available to enter or exit during standard 9am to 5pm working hours.

Taxis are easy to find in this area of town but you can ask a member of concierge or reception to order one for you if you don’t have the time yourself.

Our location is also excellent due to all the bars and restaurants in the area, as we’re right next to the very trendy Shoreditch district. You can get just about any cuisine during from breakfast through to lunch and any of our staff will be able to give you a knowledgeable recommendation if you’re looking for some help.
