Why Shoreditch is perfect for hosting conferences

Shoreditch is a fantastic location for business conferences, as the area boasts great meeting room spaces and excellent transport links.

There are also a wealth of local delis and sandwich stores nearby, which means companies do not have to worry about catering for the all-important lunch break.

The emergence of East London Tech City means it is the primary location for some of the world’s biggest web technology companies, with the likes of Google and Facebook opening offices here in recent years.

And while Shoreditch used to be a mainly working class residential area, it has been gentrified by the creative industries and so is ideal for conferences. Indeed, StartUp Britain – a national campaign by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs that seeks to celebrate, inspire and accelerate enterprise in the UK – recently hosted one of its events in the Old Spitalfields Market.

So where are the best conference venues in Shoreditch?

Shoreditch Town Hall (380 Old St, London EC1V 9LT)

There are eight different spaces for hire at Shoreditch Town Hall. The majestic surroundings are perfect for a range of events, from team bonding sessions to annual general meetings. There is a event team in place who will make sure all of your needs are met, while most of the spaces are offered on a dry hire basis. Up to 600 guests can be accommodated at any event, with the Assembly Hall the biggest and grandest area.

etc.venues (Bonhill Street, Bishopsgate and Moorgate)

This company has a number of conference, training, meeting, exhibition and event venues across Shoreditch. They all offer great views of the city, while all of the rooms come equipped with wireless internet, room-controlled air conditioning and hi-tech data projectors. You can also have breakfast and/or lunch included in the room hire, which saves you from having to deal with outside contractors. The company has been voted as the UK’s favourite venue provider by Eventbrite in its Events Industry Insights Pulse Report.

The Brewery (52 Chiswell Street, London EC1Y 4SD)

This former brewery has been transformed into a truly unique venue for an event. The Grade II-listed building has eight different rooms, all of which boast their own character. All of the rooms are hugely versatile – for example, the Smeaton Vaults has two self-contained but interconnected, vaulted rooms with an exclusive reception area and modern features. The Brewery can cater for between 30 and 1,200 guests, while the layout of the location is very flexible and can be altered to suit your needs. The Brewery is also close to Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Barbican stations, and is served by at least ten bus routes.

London Art House (2-18 Britannia Row, London N1 8PA)

Located in the fashionable district of Islington, this venue offers a number of creative spaces that can be used as meeting rooms, conferences and bespoke corporate events. The location is based on the notion of creativity through art, and so the centre looks to develop productive thought in stimulating environments. There is a heavy focus on the design of the venue, as its creators believe they can “activate the brain’s feel-good chemicals through the psychological effect of colour to ensure customers feel inspired, engaged and relaxed”. There are 18 rooms for hire in total, and they can hold between eight and 300 people, with an informal seating plan favoured. All of the rooms come with an LCD Projector, screen and free Wi-Fi.

Barbican Centre (Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS)

This cultural centre has a gallery, cinema and a music hall. But as well as being a world-class arts venue, it also has a range of auditoria, rooms and spaces that can be hired for events. There are a total of 11 rooms that can be used for conferences, and the venue was the winner of the ‘Coolest Conference & Exhibition Centre 2015’ award at Prestige Event’s COOL Awards. Every client is assigned a dedicated events manager and that person will act as a professional point of contact from the moment your booking is confirmed.

The Gestalt Centre (96-100 Clifton Street, London EC2A 4TP)

This centre has a room that can cater for between six and eight people. Costing £154 for a half day and £220 for a full day, the room comes with a CD player, a TV & VCR/DVD, an LCD projector and a laptop. There are also a number of catering options.
